A lot of people, when they first find out about Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), are amazed that they haven't heard of them before. They quickly identify the key benefits; Low Cost, Transparancy and Broad Diversification being very attractive items in an investment pool.

So like any equity you need to understand a few things before buying an ETF! You need to understand why you are buying the ETF in accordance with your investment strategies. Are you in for the short-term or will you be holding the stock?

As a person who has never invested in anything other than property and savings I have begun a journey to expand my interest and knowledge about what other investment opportunities are out there. Of course there are things like the rare coins, painting, antiques and the list could go on, but as most novices like myself know there is also this magical thing called the stockmarket!

Well another mindfield opens here. Do you buy and hold or look at daytrading or is there another option?
