Introducing a New Index Versus Active Funds Scorecard for Australia

standardpoors
The Standard & Poor's Index Versus Active Funds Australia (SPIVA Australia) Scorecard will provide semi-annual results on the index versus active debate. This scorecard shows performances of actively managed Australian managed funds as compared to various market indices in their respective categories on a consistent and regular basis. Although many reports on this topic are published on an ad-hoc, SPIVA scorecards are unique in a few respects:
  • Survivorship bias correction
  • Apples-to-apples comparison
  • Asset-weighted returns
SPIVA reports are the only comprehensive, periodic and publicly available sources of such data. SPIVA Australia builds upon the reputation and success of the SPIVA scorecard in the U.S. and Canada where it has been widely accepted among financial advisors, institutional investors and the media. Like its global counterparts, SPIVA Australia will not make any investment recommendations or offer comments on the suitability of either index or active investing. The scorecard shall simply report periodic data according to the SPIVA methodology and provide a brief analysis. Further, we advise reading the methodology at the end of the report in order to understand how the numbers are derived.
